PhDsoft has secured FINEP funding to develop WebDigitalTwin Mining Closure, a digital twin project for integrity management, monitoring and support for mine and dam decommissioning.

PhDsoft will execute the project, with specialist consulting from Rhama Analysis and technical and scientific participation from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (Poli USP), through Lab Infra. Validation of the solution is planned at a real Vale asset.

A digital twin for dam integrity

The project covers mining dams, including tailings dams. Its goal is to develop a digital information base that enables teams to track asset information over time and supports engineering, monitoring and intervention planning decisions.

The solution will seek to bring together instrumentation data, inspections and technical histories in the context of the asset, creating an integrated view to assess its integrity. The scope also includes support for decommissioning scenario analysis, an important stage in the life cycle of mines and dams.

Complementary roles in project delivery

As the executing company, PhDsoft will be responsible for developing the digital twin solution and integrating the information needed for its application. The work will extend the use of the Web Digital Twin in mining asset management.

Rhama Analysis will provide specialist geotechnical consulting, contributing to modeling, calibration and scenario assessment. Its participation will support the engineering interpretation required to develop and validate the solution.

Poli USP will participate as the project’s science and technology institution through Lab Infra. The laboratory will contribute to the management, qualification and technical and scientific interpretation of instrumentation, testing, inspection and monitoring data.

Validation planned at a Vale asset

The pilot application is planned at a Vale asset. Vale has already formalized its interest in carrying out the pilot through a signed letter of interest.

This stage will allow the solution to be assessed in a real setting and guide the adjustments needed for its application. With FINEP support, the project will bring together technology development, geotechnical consulting and applied research to support more integrated management of mining structures.
