Simulation, FEA and Structural Integrity Engineer
Simulation, structural analysis and engineering integration for the WDT, including FEA, fatigue, buckling, risk and calculation validation.
About the role
This person will work on simulation, structural analysis and the integration of engineering into the WDT. The work includes FEA, solvers, NX Nastran, PLAXIS, geotechnical models, naval analyses, fatigue, buckling, thickness, risk, critical areas, decision matrices and calculation validation.
The role calls for an applied-engineering profile that can work with software teams. The aim is to turn technical criteria, models, results and validations into traceable capabilities in the WDT and in R&D projects.
Main responsibilities
- Develop, review or validate simulation models and structural analyses applied to the WDT.
- Support integration of 3D models, meshes, load cases, FEA results, thicknesses, fatigue, buckling and risk.
- Translate engineering rules, code criteria and checks into technical requirements for software.
- Validate calculation results, benchmarks, calculation notes and evidence for pilots and TRL.
- Collaborate with backend, AI, QA and data on controlled solver automation and interpretation of results.
- Support definition of critical areas, consequence, reliability, scenarios, decision matrices and value of information.
- Document assumptions, limitations, inputs, outputs and acceptance criteria of the analyses.
Required qualifications
- A degree in naval, civil, mechanical, structural or geotechnical engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with structural analysis, finite elements or numerical simulation.
- Knowledge of structural mechanics, stress, strain, fatigue, buckling, integrity or reliability.
- Ability to interpret results and communicate them to software and product teams.
- Familiarity with technical documentation, calculation notes and model validation.
- Interest in digital twins, engineering automation and integration of simulation with web systems.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with NX Nastran, ANSYS, Abaqus, FEMAP, PLAXIS, FLAC3D, 3DEC, Rocscience Slide3 or equivalents.
- Background in naval structures, FPSOs, mining, dams, geotechnics, infrastructure or critical assets.
- Knowledge of Python, C#, automation of engineering routines or integration with APIs/CLIs.
- Experience with AI applied to engineering, surrogate models, benchmarks or experimental validation.
Related technologies and tools
NX Nastran, FEMAP, ANSYS, Abaqus, PLAXIS, FLAC3D, 3DEC, Python, C# and equivalent simulation tools.
Profile
We are looking for a technically rigorous person who can balance engineering judgment and product building. They should validate results, recognize uncertainty and work with software teams without giving up technical responsibility.
How to apply
To apply, send the following materials:
How do you currently use artificial-intelligence tools in your professional workflow? Name the tools, give examples of activities, and explain how you validate the results produced with AI assistance.
Additional information may include LinkedIn, GitHub, Behance, Google Scholar, articles, publications, websites, demonstrations, applications or other links relevant to the role.
- An up-to-date curriculum vitae with education, professional experience, main projects, technologies used and responsibilities held.
- A portfolio with concrete examples of previous work. For software, this may be GitHub, applications, systems, APIs, interfaces or projects that can be demonstrated. For engineering, this may be models, simulations, reports, analyses, publications or technical work that can be shared. Confidential projects may be presented in anonymized form.
- A presentation video of up to 5 minutes, briefly showing a project or portfolio, the problem solved, your contribution, the technologies used, your working workflow, everyday tools, your use of artificial intelligence and how you validate results produced with AI support.
